Priscilla Romero
My best friend Priscilla Romero recently developed Guillain-Barre syndrome following her first COVID vaccine. GBS is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. It causes progressive weakness, extreme pain and tingling in your extremities.
These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralyzing your entire body. She has been hospitalized in the ICU for the past 2 weeks. She was just transferred to inpatient rehab. At this time it is unknown when she will be able to return home with Diego her 12 yo son or work.
There's no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome, but several treatments can ease symptoms and reduce the duration of the illness. Although most people recover from Guillain-Barre syndrome, 60-80% of people are able to walk at six months but can take up to 3 years.
She has received treatment to remove the antibodies but she has a long road to recovery ahead of her. She will now require 24 hour assistance and need intense inpatient therapy daily. Healthcare is expensive and we hope with donations, her full focus can be towards recovery, and not on medical bills.
Priscilla is a pediatric nurse practitioner with a passion for health and fitness. Had this happened to anyone she knew, she would be the first to donate, as well as offer up any care that she could give.
Any amount of money that you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Updates will be provided through Facebook so you can see how the donations are assisting in her recovery. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. God Bless
