Produce the short film MAINSPRING

From a young age, I’ve been blessed and cursed with knowing what it is I want to do with the rest of my life. Make movies. I love the particularities of the art of film, as well as its complicated, often counterintuitive production process, but somehow it doesn’t deter me. It’s the format I have found to express myself best, and I have been studying filmmaking accordingly for several years through a variety of means. Last summer, I worked to complete my largest scale and most personal film to date, and it was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life. But the muses work in mysterious ways, and now I have a story that’s everything the last film was threefold!
I’ve worked for the past year to write my next script, and I now have the vision, the story, and the collaborators to bring my next production to life. But while we have the heart, soul, and knowledge to create my next work, I do lack the full funds needed to bring this movie to fruition. You have to practice your craft repeatedly to grow and develop your talent, but that’s easier said than done in such an intricate, collaborative medium.
The story, you might be wondering, is one most of us have experienced. It follows Kat, a young watch thief, bear with me, who’s faced with unexpected difficulties when she meets and falls for Pluto, bear with me, the young delivery guy who unknowingly delivers stolen goods from Kat’s mentor to wherever they need to get to. Kat goes out on a limb to foster a relationship with Pluto, but she soon realizes that she has more experience stealing watches than stealing hearts.
I would like to invite you to participate in my next venture! Based on my experience to date, I have developed a budget of $10,000 for this film. The biggest expense is the buying and processing of 16mm film, which we used last summer with stunning results, and it only seems right to raise the bar on this story to see how we can make it even more beautiful. Then we have to support another artist - a composer and crucial collaborator - to create an original score for the film. I was lucky enough to work with a great one on the last film and would love to work with him again, but he’s a pro and has bills to pay. Then there are the smaller expenses that add up quickly- props, costumes, equipment, tape, granola bars, and a little something for the hard-working actors and crew if we have a little left (or a lot, depending on your generosity!)
In a world where passionate kids are broke, one person can make a difference…. So please donate today.
