Prof. Scott D. Gerber's Legal Fund

Hello, my name is Tristin Kilgallon and I am helping my friend and colleague Prof. Scott Gerber fund his legal team in Scott's battle against Ohio Northern University (ONU). As Scott explained in an op-ed requested by the Wall Street Journal, ONU's administration recently had campus security and armed Ada police officers escort Scott from class, in full view of his shocked students, for reasons that remain unknown to both Scott and his attorneys. Despite numerous requests by Scott, Scott's lawyers, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), and others, that ONU inform Scott of the specific allegations against him, ONU has remained steadfast in its refusal to do so. ONU's police-state-type actions are almost certainly in retaliation for Scott speaking out against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives that run contrary to the type of diversity higher education should value most--viewpoint diversity--and that lead to illegal employment and admissions practices. Indeed, ONU's Kafkaesque conduct has drawn the attention of the national media, higher education, and the public. FIRE, AAUP, the National Association of Scholars, and many ONU alumni, practicing lawyers, and countless individuals--many of whom Scott has never before met--have penned letters to ONU's administration in support of Scott. Moreover, many professors signed a letter written by Harvard Law School Prof. Randall Kennedy criticizing the distressing actions of ONU's administration. Despite this public outcry, ONU has refused to back down, and litigation seems inevitable. And as you are undoubtedly aware, funding a legal team to fight the deep pockets of a private university is expensive. But with your help, we can make sure Scott receives the justice he deserves. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you.
