Project Archive Artist Benefit Film Festival

We're not asking for a handout. We're offering a trade.

Covid-19 has disrupted the international economy on an unprecedented scale. As industries grind to a halt, the air sports industry has been one of the hardest hit. Participants of these sports have lost the ability to do what excites them, what balances them, what gives them passion, and what makes them feel connected. Filmmakers in these sports have lost all these things, as well as their livelihood. Without the ability to travel and create, filmmakers are dead in the water. Most of these artists are gig-workers, independent contractors who may not qualify for healthcare benefits, unemployment insurance, or many of the benefits that regular employees take for granted until a time like this.

But we're not asking for a handout. The beauty of isolation is the opportunity for creation. With basically all filmmakers in time-out, passion projects that have been forced to the backburner by busy work schedules are suddenly unburdened. At a time when we're all missing the activities we love most, where have we turned? To media. To videos. To these artists

We've created this film festival for three reasons: To bring joy, inspiration, and connection to the community; To motivate the creation of passionate and much-needed media by the artists we so-often take for granted; To support these artists in what may be the most distressing period of their careers.

The film festival will present curated videos from artists in your community. They'll inspire you, make you laugh, or give you something to look forward to. Most of these videos are being shown to audiences for the first time ever, and all videos will be created from footage that was shot before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, or footage that could be gained without defying quarantine/social-distancing policies.

Each artist whose film is included in the festival will receive an equal share of what you give. This money can help them with food, rent, healthcare, expensive equipment maintenance, or even future projects.

In turn, you will be getting a curated video per day, created by someone in your community, about something that you love, for the duration of the fundraiser. Additionally, you'll get the eternal appreciation of a small community of passionate artists who are desperately trying to hold on to their craft--a craft which brings us together, pushes us to new heights, entertains us, and makes us laugh, cry, smile, and everything in between.

We aren't holding the videos hostage. If you don't have something to give, but still want to be inspired, you are welcome to enjoy the film fest by clicking here

If you are one of the people who has chosen to give in a time where there isn't much extra going around, all we can say is thank you for recognizing the value of artists when things get hard, for supporting your community, and for your help.

Sincerely,

The Project Archive/Kinetic team
