Project Gimme Shelter
Tax deductible
The Humane Society of Pasco County is run completely by volunteers. We are looking to raise money to help the shelter build a new building at their current location, which is a beautiful piece of property in Spring Hill, Florida.
When you enter the gate to the facility you see to the right up on the hill our main building, which is a 30-year-old trailer. This trailer is a temporary safe place, for cats and small dogs who are sick or injured, abandoned or homeless due to the loss of their human. Over the years, the trailer has had band-aid repair after band-aid repair. It even recovered from an air conditioner fire that damaged an entire wall. The trailer has now reached a point beyond band-aid repairs.
In addition, due to the limited size of the trailer the shelter has to keep the medium and large dogs in outdoor kennels. Although every kennel is large, each having enough space to play, a bed and a dog house, the dogs remain in these kennels day and night. During the winter to keep them warm they have blankets, sweaters and tarps wrapped around the kennels. During the summer and inclement weather, they are still in those kennels.
The Humane Society of Pasco is a no-kill shelter, so animals often stay with us for an extended period of time due to slow adoptions, or medical issues. We also have an increased need to house more animals. We remain unfunded by local, county and state authorities, so that we can continue to be no-kill. Currently, we rely on adoption fees and the generosity of our community to provide each animal with a loving temporary home and cover all their needs including vet care.
We are half-way to our goal of raising $200,000 to fully construct a 2500+ sq. ft. building on our property. We have several contractors and local businesses who have stepped up to either donate or greatly discount their services and even some of the materials to make this building a reality. With all this generosity we are still in need of additional fund to make our safe place a reality.
The new building will provide us with a large cat enclosure, indoor dog kennels, indoor storage, a small kitchen area, a laundry area, proper handicap accommodations, a dog wash area, and the peace of mind that it is not crumbing around us. As hurricane season is upon us we need to get this building project started so that we can make sure we have a safe place for the animals of Pasco County!
