PROJECT PROTECT - NEW YORK
PLEASE DONATE TO PROVIDE MASKS AND CRITICAL SUPPLIES TO HOSPITALS IN THE NYC AREA!
Hospitals around the country are running out of supplies for their frontline healthcare workers -- Doctors, Nurses & healthcare staff who are treating COVID-19 patients. In Italy, 1 in every 10 Coronavirus cases are healthcare workers.
In response to the overwhelming shortage of N95 Respirators and other critical supplies, PROJECT PROTECT has partnered with WOOTER APPAREL and GAMEBREAKER INC to raise funds to provide such masks and protective gear to the brave healthcare workers who are in the front lines battling the COVID-19 Virus.
It’s vital that our healthcare workers get access to N95 Respirators as soon as possible. Proper protection via these masks not only helps to protect healthcare workers from COVID-19, it will help prevent the overall possibility of exposing others to the virus. Our healthcare providers are “terrified” to go to work under current conditions and it is up to us to help them feel safe at work while caring for those in need.
As New Yorkers, we can’t just sit around and watch - we’re fighters. We need to protect our frontline responders so they can protect us!
The Problem:
If a hospital staff member catches the COVID-19 virus, not only is their health at risk, they could be out of work for a considerable amount of time. That’s a major problem as the ratio of healthcare workers to patients is already disproportioned for the worse. The more frontline responders means higher capacity at our hospitals, which means that more people will be able to get the care that they need.
Nurses around the state of New York are reusing the same N95 Respirators for days and weeks in a row - as this is currently the best method for protecting themselves from COVID-19, while providing care for those with the virus. According to the CDC, “There is no way of determining the maximum possible number of safe reuses for an N95 Respirator as a generic number to be applied in all cases. Respirators can function within their design specifications for 8 hours of continuous or intermittent use.” This means that N95 Respirators are no longer effective in their ability to protect against airborne virus particles after being reused several times. For more information regarding N95 Respirators and CDC recommendations please visit:
https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/hcwcontrols/recommendedguidanceextuse.html
The supply of N95 Respirators is so limited that many nurses and healthcare workers are being forced to wear surgical masks instead, which do not filter out airborne virus particles. As we know, COVID-19 is an airborne virus which is the reason behind the importance of providing healthcare workers with NIOSH certified N95 Respirators as soon as possible. The number of people who are testing positive for COVID-19 has not yet reached its peak and our healthcare workers are in desperate need of this personal protective equipment.
How we’re helping solve the problem:
Project Protect partnered with the founders of Wooter Apparel and Gamebreaker who both have access to a supply chain of NIOSH Certified N95 Respirators, CE Certified KN95 Respirators, and FDA approved 3-PLY surgical masks that are sourced from CDC approved manufacturers. Orders are being filled on a first come first serve basis and while other fundraisers and organizations are working hard to fill their demand, there are no guarantees on the amount of masks we will be able to purchase weekly. We are working on coordinating with more CDC approved manufacturers to increase our ability to get more of these masks and other critical supplies in the hands of our healthcare providers.
