Rangichangi /(रँगीचँगी): Transforming Nepal’s Public Schools through the Power of Color

Rangichangi/ (रँगीचँगी) is a nepali word which means COLORFUL in english , is more than a word; it's a feeling—a memory of childhood filled with the poetry of flowers, butterflies, and vibrant hues. For many, it symbolizes joy, happiness, and endless possibilities.

Project Rangichangi is my dream to bring that joy and possibility into Nepal’s public schools. Through art, murals, and child-friendly resources, we aim to reimagine classrooms into spaces that inspire children to dream, imagine, and create—a world where even the most disadvantaged children feel the warmth of hope and opportunity.

Why Rangichangi?

During my years working in rural Nepal, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles of our education system. Schools in remote areas often lack the resources and infrastructure to nurture young minds. Classrooms are dark, dilapidated, and uninviting—spaces that reflect the harsh realities these children endure daily.

Yet, amidst the cold floors and broken benches, there is a spark: the hope in these children's eyes. They dream of a brighter future despite facing overwhelming challenges like poverty, child labor, early marriage, and malnutrition. But how can they dream when their surroundings are so uninspiring?

Imagine what a touch of color, a vibrant mural, or an inspiring classroom could do. Bright walls and meaningful art can transform more than just physical spaces—they can shift mindsets, spark curiosity, and nurture resilience. A cheerful, inviting classroom can be a place where children feel seen, valued, and encouraged to explore their potential.

My Rangichangi Story

I’m Samita Rana Magar, a 27-year-old social worker with a decade of experience in sustainability, women’s empowerment, education, and child development. My journey has been one of connecting deeply with vulnerable communities, fueled by a passion for creating a kinder, brighter world.

As a shy and curious child, I often felt lost in my own world, retreating into books and skipping playtime—a lonely existence that dulled my childhood. But as adult, when art, colors, and music entered my life, everything changed. They became my language of joy, my way of healing, and my lens to see the world as a canvas full of possibilities.

Today, I carry that colorful lens with me everywhere, and I dream of sharing its transformative power with others. Through Project Rangichangi, I want to light up the classrooms of rural Nepal and inspire children to dream bigger and brighter.

The Rangichangi Mission

Moreover, we aim to create art that celebrates cultural diversity, fosters unity and harmony, and embodies the kindness the world so deeply needs.
