Since my mom was 16 years old her home has been a safe haven for anyone who needed a place to stay. She has been an extra mom to numerous teens, rescued friends from abusive partners, given advice, hot meals, clean clothes, whatever anyone needed that was doable, she did. And still does. She is optimistic, spiritual, and tries to find humor is any way possible to deal with the suffering in her life.
Now its her. She is the one who needs a safe haven. She was diagnosed with a rare condition called POEMS syndrome. It has attacked her stomach, so she can no longer eat. It has also attacked her nerves and her vagus nerve. With it, she also has Multiple Myeloma, which is a cancer in the bone marrow. She has a G-Tube to keep her stomach contents empty and a port for TPN for nutrition and for chemotherapy.
She has been on chemo for the last year, off and on, dependent upon what her body is able to handle. In May of last year, she cam very clsoe to dying. Since leaving the hospital she has been focusing on "Project Save Jen's Life." There is still hope for remission but its hard work, physically, mentally, emotionally, it all takes its toll. She suffers every day of her life, she wakes up in pain, goes to bed in pain, but she is not allowing it to control her. She is still smiling, trying to put out positive vibes, and embracing every day that she is still here.
Her obstacle to remission. Her home is in foreclosure. She applied and did every single program offered for saving her home and was denied all of it. Should it be just her, she could go to a nursing home, however she is responsible for a teenage son and her 84 year old mother. She is their caretaker. She has so much anxiety over the house being in foreclosure, it is affecting her health. She wakes up every day unsure if that will be the day the sheriff shows up with his notice. Its terrifying. She is too sick to pack quickly and get out. She lives on $850 per month from SSD, and the waitlist for apartments are 1-2 years out.
Shes honestly does not know what will happen to them. She needs help and cannot be the soul caretaker of the household any longer. She is too sick. There are discussions of starting stem cell transplants to put her in remission, but its drastic, takes months of recovery, and a great deal of energy. She could have that energy if she had a stable, safe, permanent roof over her head.
If we could raise enough money to purchase even a mobile home up near hear children where her daughter in law could provide care we would be thrilled. Or if anyone has a home that they would be willing to rent out very, very, very cheaply just until she is done with all of her therapies, we would be most grateful.
Feeling safe is all she wants. She is asking from the bottom of her heart, please help her feel safe, let each morning that she opens her eyes be one of gratitude, security, and a feeling of well being. So that she may use all of her energy to combat this debilitating disease.
