Build a School In a Slum Of Nairobi

Donation protected
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.    - Nelson Mandela

Right behind the leafy green, well developed residential suburb for middle to upper class Kenyans and expatriates sits the Kibagare Slums.  This slum is home to over 150,000 residents, the majority surviving on less than $1 a day.

In 2008, Kibagare Academy was founded, by Pastor Amos Okolo, as an accommodation to protect the innocent children of the slums from some of the harsh daily realities they are faced with.  These children were left unattended for long hours while their parents went elsewhere to work or beg for money.  They were often left with no food and were frequent victims of rape and abuse.  Many of these children had no choice but to turn to begging themselves, sometimes ending up alone and abandoned on the streets.  Since 2008, with the help of private sponsors and dedicated individuals, this refuge has grown into a certified primary school, educating children between the ages of 3-9 years.

Thanks to sponsors and big hearted individuals, like you, we have come a long way!  We have been able to install electricity and get a clean water supply! We have spent our generous donations on school supplies, school desks, uniforms, shoes, teachers' salaries, and even the occasional party and field trip, so that our children can experience the joy of holidays!

Now is when we need YOUR help!  Kibagare Academy needs to raise $25,000 in order to build a permanent school structure!  The plans for the school building have been drawn up, city permits were received, and we broke ground.  However, we do not have the funds to continue building.  The process was started by a group of Australian volunteers, who fell in love with Project Kibagare, as most people do, but their overzealous approach has landed us in a bit of trouble.  Their funding fell through and we are now left with the base of a structure and the need for $25,000 in order to continue building it.

Thanks to a private donor we have built a temporary, one room, tin school house which we are currently using as Kibagare Academy.  However, the tin school house we presently have cannot be supported by climate conditions.  In the months we've had it, the roof has already caved in.  It is our goal to build a proper, sturdy school for the students of Kibagare Slums.  We hope to make it a two storied school with room for a dormitory, in order to care for unwell or orphaned children.  We need Kibagare Academy to continue growing so that we can give these children the hope and foundation they need for brighter futures.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IN BEING A PART OF THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD!

ASANTE SANA! LOVE&LIGHT FROM KIBAGARE ACADEMY!
