Promises for the Penske Dogs

On May 6th, Detroit Dog Rescue was contacted by the City of River Rouge, our neighbors to Detroit, asking for help with a horrific situation. Their small municipal shelter simply couldn’t medically treat and house the influx of dogs from such a terrible situation.
Seventeen dogs, believed to belong to a “rescue group”, were put into a box truck and transferred thousands of miles in the heat. Officers estimated the truck to be at least 100 degrees with no ventilation. The dogs were starving, thirsty, overheated and scared.
Detroit Dog Rescue jumped into action offering medical triage, housing and care. There simply was no one else to step up for long term housing and medical care while these dogs waited in a legal limbo. Several of the dogs are emaciated, full of parasites, rashes, irritated skin, and worse. They have long term medical problems too, heartworm, giardia, and more.
Detroit Dog Rescue must house these dogs for 60+ days on a legal hold, but we are determined to medically treat them and provide them with enrichment. They’ve already been through so much and we don’t want them to suffer anymore trauma.
At this time we are looking for gifts to cover their boarding ad medical care which in the short term will cost Detroit Dog Rescue over $5, 000. Any amount counts and we are extremely grateful for your support. These dogs have been shuffled around, neglected, and discarded. Let’s make tomorrow better for them.
