Promote Technology for Girls in Africa
Donation protected
The PETGA Initiative was founded by Valerie Ehimhen and Damilola Arinde. It stands for Promoting Engineering and Technology for Girls in Africa. The problem Dammy and Valerie are all too familiar with is the lack of Engineering and Technology exposure for young girls in Africa. This lack of exposure leads to disproportional gender inequality in the Engineering and Technology workforce, which stems from disinterest. This is a huge problem in Africa especially for the girl child, as society has swayed them away from these fields largely dominated by men.
Our solution is to expose young girls to Technology and Engineering concepts, classes, courses, and role models, showing them that it is a doable, interesting, and viable field they can pursue as their careers. We intend to do this by providing both digital and in-person lessons to public schools at no cost to the school, or to the girl child.
We are starting in our home Country of Nigeria, and intend to grow to other countries in Africa.
We are commencing the initiative at a Junior Girls' Secondary School in Lagos, and over 145 of the girls indicated their interest in the program. We need your support to be able to provide course materials, and computers, and purchase all the necessary resources needed to promote Engineering and Technology for the girl child.
Thank you as you donate to this cause.
