South Shore Charter School

Chartre… The genesis of which dates back to the 12th century; Chartre ~a decree scribed on papyrus; a public declaration of a covenant…conferring a privilege.
The SUNY Charter School Institute’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted for the approval of South Shore Charter School to open its doors in September 2022; granting us the privilege to serve the deserved families and students of Central Islip and the surrounding communities.
So many aspects of consequence imbued in our newly conferred Charter- both tangible and intangible. The symbolism is that of a new dawn rising up on the horizon, and one can have an imagination for all the promise that comes with a new day.
A profoundly momentous occasion indeed.
…In September of 2022 we will open the doors to welcome 150 Kindergarteners and first grade students; One can only delight in the image of our young community of learners bursting through the doors of The South Shore Charter School with all the enthusiasm for the possibilities that await.
We need your help now more than ever to help ensure our mission to provide underserved families access to a high-quality education in a safe learning environment is carried out with expediency. Starting a charter school is expensive and as many of you are already aware, the state does not provide funds to new charter schools until the school doors open and enrollment is determined, so to this end…we MUST raise money now. We are undertaking a fundraising drive to support the startup efforts of the school! Immediate funding is required for securing real estate, marketing the school, purchasing materials, and much more. Your donation will also go towards payment of current bills for work concurrent to the development process.
Please consider giving to support our mission to give underserved families access to a high-quality education in a safe learning environment.
Grassroot support and a strong financial start will ensure our application’s success and allow for an uninterrupted process. The health of a community is often measured by the value of its homes, strength of its businesses and the ranking of its schools—We recognize the importance of this historic moment as we are the first charter school to be authorized to serve students in the town of Islip. We are committed to ensuring we are an asset to the community by offering a culture of academic excellence.
We thank all those who believed in our vision from the beginning and we cannot wait to partner with parents, students, community organizations, grass-root leaders, local businesses, and non-profits united in coalition that stands committed in transforming what is possible for our children and youth.
...Let the annals point to this moment in time and regard this endeavor amongst the lofty and noble pursuits that contributed to the progress and promise of a generation.
