The developer was required to submit a Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) to the Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency in March 2024.
MEPA responded on May 21 with comments and further actions that need to be taken by GFI.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The proposed massive warehouse project in Northwest Shrewsbury poses a significant threat to the town's drinking water, wetlands, wildlife, and public health. The developer, GFI, is seeking approval to construct two warehouses covering a total of 921,000 square feet, which is equivalent to the size of 16 football fields. This development would be situated on 142 Clinton Street, directly over the town's precious Aquifer, which serves as the primary source of clean drinking water for all Shrewsbury residents. Any potential contamination of the Aquifer, whether from an oil spill or accident, would jeopardize the town's water supply, leaving residents with no alternative source of safe drinking water.

In addition to the risks posed to the town's water supply, the warehouse project is expected to significantly increase traffic in the area. GFI estimates that the development will bring in 1,496 vehicles daily, including 554 heavy-duty diesel tractor-trailer trucks. The emissions from these trucks will not only contribute to air and noise pollution but also raise concerns about public health issues. Furthermore, the influx of traffic is likely to result in chaotic congestion on major roads throughout Shrewsbury, impacting the daily lives of residents and posing safety risks to pedestrians and drivers alike.

As concerned citizens, we are actively opposing the warehouse development and are seeking support from the community to raise awareness about the potential dangers associated with this project. We are organizing fundraising efforts to purchase lawn signs, distribute flyers, and conduct a town-wide mailing campaign to inform residents about the impacts on drinking water, public health, air quality, traffic congestion, wetlands, and wildlife. Your contribution and participation are crucial in our collective efforts to safeguard Shrewsbury's natural resources, preserve the health and safety of all families, and prevent irreversible damage to the town's environment. Join us in our mission to protect what matters most - our community and our future.
