Protect A & K's Rights and Future
Donation protected
Hi! We're A & K, a queer transgender couple who make queer trans content, and we're here hoping to raise $4,000.
Thanks to the results of the 2024 election and the content of Project 2025, we have a pressing need to update and obtain a lot of paperwork as soon as possible to best protect ourselves against potential future bans, rights rollbacks, or travel issues. We currently live in Ohio, which already has horrifying bills on the docket for 2025 and has passed one of the most oppressive anti-trans bathroom bills in the country. While we had hoped to pursue a few other ambitions and goals in this coming year, preparing for the crackdown on LGBTQIA healthcare and societal access must take priority.
Here is a breakdown of the costs and hurdles this GoFundMe will help us through:
- IDs/Passports
- Marriage Protection: Wills/POA & Notary
- Healthcare: Updated Vaccines, Gynecological Health
- Gender Affirming Care: Stockpiling Meds, New Binder, Vocal Training, Surgical Consultation Transportation Costs
- Tariff Risk Work Equipment: Updated iPad, New Laptop Cord
ID Issues:
Neither of us have passports, so we need to apply for two and preferably expedite the process due to a growing influx of applications. But before that can happen, K will need to complete a name change to align with his gender, which includes court costs and fees. I also need to update my driver's license to comply with the RealID restriction for domestic flights coming soon.
Marriage Protection:
As a same-sex married trans couple, we need updated paperwork to legally back up rights we currently have thanks to marriage equality -- something members of SCOTUS have openly aspired to overturn in the near future. That includes notarized copies of updated wills and power of attorney forms that will likely involve lawyer and/or notary fees.
Healthcare:
With the potential for a lack of readily-available vaccinations, we would like to get all of our vaccines up-to-date and other important checks (like PAP smears, etc.) which requires extra doctor visits and gas/Uber money.
Gender-Affirming Care:
We will need to make extra doctor appointments and pay for prescriptions to stockpile gender-affirming medications such as testosterone and finasteride to protect against the possibility of trans adult healthcare being restricted soon. We would also invest in other gender-affirming steps while we can, such as vocal training, surgical consultations and a new binder.
Work Equipment:
Thanks to the likelihood of tariffs, we would like to upgrade our necessary work equipment as soon as possible before they become even more unaffordable to us. The iPad we use for all of our projects is very outdated, small, and has a cracked screen. It is near the end of its life and should be upgraded to at least the next best refurbished model. We also need to get a replacement adapter for our laptop, which contains important files and artwork.
(A small amount of our budget is also to account for GoFundMe fees.)
To Wrap It Up:
While it is easy, and tempting, to brush off the seriousness of what has happened in America and what is coming in 2025, there is absolutely no reason to doubt that the incoming administration intends to crackdown exactly as hard as they have promised on LGBTQIA people, healthcare, and content in the coming months. Those distracting cultural "victories" will have very real and immediate consequences for us and millions of others. While there is certainty of what may happen and how soon, the best we can do is be prepared for all possibilities.
Thank you for reading. I hope you'll help us create a legal safety net for our family and that we will all get through this bleak period the way we always have: together.
