March & Vigil of Solidarity and Love for AAPI Lives
Your generous donations will go towards defraying the costs of holding this event to stand in solidarity with the AAPI communities of Alachua County and to raise community consciousness about anti-Asian hate and violence. The event description is below:
#AsiansUnited #StopAsianHate
We, the united Asian communities of Alachua County and allies, invite you to join us for a march and a vigil in support of our AAPI/Asian neighbors and against anti-Asian hate.
Meet us at 6 at Bo-Diddley Plaza to march in solidarity to Depot Park for the vigil, which will begin at 6:30. Or you can meet us at the vigil at 6:30 pm. Please feel free to bring posters, flowers etc.
Please note: Social distancing will be strictly enforced, and masks are required at the event.
At the vigil, we will mourn the lives that have been taken, hear the testimonies of AAPI/Asians and others in our community describing their experiences of living with or witnessing acts of racism, anti-racism, and ally-ship and participate in individual and community demonstrations of love and solidarity.
All members of AAPI and broader Alachua County communities are welcome. Let us come together to better understand each other's experiences, pledge to support one another, and move forward as one into a future free of hatred.
**If you would like to share testimony at this event, in whatever form, (speech, spoken word, song, testimony) of your experience with racism, anti-racism, or ally-ship or would like to participate in another way, please complete this form https://forms.gle/35k4WixTrDmLymwb6 .
We welcome the participation of both people who identify as AAPI/Asian and those who do not. If you are not able to attend or are not comfortable sharing publicly yourself but have something that you would like to say, please let us know in this form and we will contact you to make arrangements to have it shared on your behalf (or anonymously, if you prefer) https://forms.gle/35k4WixTrDmLymwb6.**
The event will be live-streamed for those who are not able to attend. Please check back for details.
