Help our Doctors and Nurses save lives - COVID19 Crisis
My name is Yogangi Malhotra, I am a neonatologist (doctor for premature and very sick babies) at Jacobi Medical Center - a municipal hospital located in the Morris Park neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City.
Jacobi Medical Center is at the epicenter of the COVID 19 pandemic. Our doctors and staff are in a real crisis. We have already lost some of our colleagues in the line of duty. The situation is dire and getting worse by the hour.
As the primary provider of healthcare services to a vulnerable population in the Bronx, the workers at Jacobi pride ourselves in our ability to do more with less. However, current events have stretched our needs to a breaking point.
We are located adjacent to the large cluster of coronavirus cases coming out of the East Bronx/ Williamsbridge area. Even as we see a huge surge of patients, we are left to contend with extreme shortages of critical supplies to operate in a safe and effective manner.
We find ourselves desperately shorthanded in providing any assistance to our community, which is vulnerable in the best of situations. As a pediatrician, I thank the stars every day that babies do better than adults with COVID-19. But these babies are coming into this world at huge risk and their families have no jobs, money, clothes, or bassinets for the babies. We are bringing these babies into this world and feel ill-equipped to ensure they are safe even on their first journey home.
We need your support. Every little bit helps. I also urge you to share this with like-minded people who may be willing to help us out.
Thank you, again!
You can donate in more ways than one:
A. Your monetary donations will help pay for:
1. Life-saving equipment: Our frontline staff and patients are succumbing to the COVID19. We need to purchase critical supplies and equipment to take better care of them.
2. Relief to front line staff: Our staff have no time for breaks, to do groceries or laundry. Some have lost family members to the pandemic. We need to get meals, sleeping arrangements, scrubs, help with funerals or basic needs, and laundry services for staff.
3. Relief for families: The patients and families we serve are out of jobs and increasingly challenged to provide for their children. Babies are being discharged home to families with no provisions to care for them. Your donation will help us purchase bassinets, formula, food and basic essentials for these families.
B. Gifts of kind:
We welcome pre-packaged meals, bassinets, pack n plays, gift cards to stores/ visa gift cards, etc. to be used by families and these can be sent to the address below. We are unable to accept any items from home (that have been previously opened) at this time given the risk of infection. However, we can accept new, unopened items delivered directly to:
