Firewise - Protect Olympic Valley from Wildfires
Tax deductible
Friends of Squaw Valley organized this fundraiser to benefit the Olympic Valley Firewise Council
(does not benefit Friends of Squaw Valley as sentence below photo states - strictly acting as funds coordinator)
Fundraiser Details....
A key objective of the Olympic Valley Firewise Council is to apply for forest fuel reduction grants (from agencies like Cal Fire), which are very, very competitive. To be successful, grant applications require a Community Wildfire Protection Plan. To that end, the Firewise Council has commissioned a company for the plan's creation.
But we are short funds. And we need your help!
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) identifies and prioritizes areas for hazardous fuel reduction treatments and recommends the types and methods of treatment that will mitigate the risk of wildfire. A CWPP will address issues such as wildfire response, hazard mitigation, community preparedness, and/or structure protection.
A CWPP is prepared by professional foresters and specialized companies. We have found a very reputable company who will do this work for $22,800.
We have received commitments from Squaw Valley Ski Corp, Olympic Valley Public Services District (OVPSD), and the Resort at Squaw Creek for $17,800, provided the Olympic Valley Community funds the remainder of the effort.
Please contribute to fund this effort…
To reach our goal, the Firewise Council has launched this GoFundMe page to ask the Olympic Valley community for contributions.
Any additional funds that we can raise will be used to fund additional Green Waste Days, possibly a tree/branch chipping program as well as other Firewise related activities.
As noted the Friends of Squaw Valley is acting solely as the funding coordinator since the Olympic Valley Firewise Council does not yet have non-profit status. Funds for the CWPP will be sent to the Olympic Valley PSD who has agreed to manage the project.
Any gift amount is appreciated and is tax deductible!
