Protect Ortega: Stop Carriage House Development
Donation protected
Stop Carriage House is a movement to defeat the development of the car storage facility that is asking for re-zoning to be built on Ortega Blvd & Manitou. The Carriage House re-zoning application to PUD allows for luxury condominiums that are intended to house a mix of uses including office, neighborhood-scale retail, and service establishments, as well as to provide a convenient automobile/vehicle storage option.
While this is what is stated in the re-zoning application, the community already knows that the application does not tell the whole story. First, facilities such as the Carriage House are known to be event spaces for car enthusiasts, which host events and gatherings that bring a significant number of non-residents to the community. This creates pollution, noise, traffic congestion, as well as problematic parking, access, and egress. Second, the facility as designed is an eyesore, not in keeping with the historic Ortega residential neighborhood. Third, with alcohol expected to be served on-site, the facility is a hazard to the nearby park, Episcopal school, and St. Marks Church.
So... while an event space for car enthusiasts may be an interesting idea, it is not appropriate for Ortega. Please help us defeat this proposal by donating what you can.
We are engaging legal counsel to represent us. Much of the funds will be used to fund this expense.
We are raising money for the Stop Carriage House campaign. All funds will be used to pay for legal expenses, signs, communications and other administrative expenses related to managing the campaign to stop the Carriage House. Funds will be transferred to the Stop Carriage House LLC bank account and dispersed from there. These disbursements will be made by Finley Knight and Peter Hunt who are the members behind Stop Carriage House LLC. Clarence Houston, ESQ is a manager of Stop Carriage House LLC providing oversight of how funds are used.
