Protect our Front Liners in the UK

Protect our Frontline Workers:

During this Coronavirus pandemic, the entire country has been forced to stop. Nevertheless, countless essential services have been asked to remain open and serve the population. The NHS is one of these and they are doing an excellent job at caring for COVID-19 patients who have worsening symptoms.

Although, as the pandemic worsens, there is a greater burden being placed on the NHS. We, as a community, greatly appreciate the hard work that NHS staff - (the hospital doctors, nurses, carers, GPs, paramedics and pharmacists) are doing on the frontline by risking their lives everyday so that we can be safe at home.

However, there is an evident shortage of protective equipment which means a lot of these staff are inadequately protected, leading to an increased risk of infections and sadly death in some cases.

That’s why we feel we can make a difference by making and distributing visors to GP practices, carers, nurses, paramedics, and pharmacists in the Eastleigh, Southampton and Salisbury in order to ensure that all staff are protected and can safely care for patients.

We are also also very keen to keep the staff of local grocery/convenience stores who remain open safe, so we can continue to shop for essential items during this crisis.

We are exploring making these visors using a 3D printers making sure the visor is reusable comfortable to wear and easy to clean and sterilise. It usually takes 2 hours to make one visor and we are hoping to make just over 100 visors a week.

We have already purchased three 3D printers and materials to make over 500 visors over the next month and will starting production from the week commencing 20 April 2020.

Thereafter, all funds will go into continuing to buy materials for the visors (approx £250 per week to make 100 visors) as well as, contributing to materials needed to make scrubs and masks.

We would be grateful for any amount of contribution that you are able to donate for this worthwhile cause. We would also be grateful if you could pass the word around to others.

Our team consists of myself Neeru, a GP living in Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh (my husband Nidhish and my 13 year old daughter Aneesha) as well as two 16 year old students: Rohan from the Boyatt Wood area in Eastleigh; and Tanay from the Salisbury area who are very keen to make a difference whilst they are at home and who are well-versed in using the 3D printers.

We are getting a lot of support from Kelly who runs a local radio station in Southampton, Unity 101.1 FM. He has already kindly donated £230 towards purchasing one of the three 3D printers.

Kelly has also connected us with like-minded groups and, through one of these connections, we have also received a further donation of £200 from Mr Andy Lai on behalf of his business and also £200 from the Chinese Association of Southampton.

We are working closely with other volunteers who may be able to provide masks, gloves, head caps, and scrubs.

We will be supporting each other through this joint venture to maximise the number of frontline workers we protect.

We are already making a difference and protecting the front line workers by staying at home.
