SAVE OUR CANYON! Stop The Destruction - Fund the Appeal

SLO County Planning has approved the development of two homes, outbuildings, asphalt road, and retaining walls including variances for all slopes over 30 degrees on a 17-acre parcel bordering the Pismo Preserves and the backyards of homes on Longview Ave. Additionally approved is a 9200 sq. ft. surface (96' wide and 96' deep) fire truck hammerhead turnaround supported by massive concrete retaining walls just down the hill from the communication towers.

Not only are the backyards of these homes affected but it creates a huge visual impact from a much larger area creating a blight on this unspoiled land forever destroying the rural landscape; all for the enjoyment of one couple, not the thousands that enjoy the Pismo Preserves or the residents of Pismo Beach. This project entails 4,000 cubic yards of steep hillside grading, destroying the face of the canyon and the hauling damaging our city streets. There is fire concern with the possibility of equipment creating sparks and starting a huge fire with great losses.

We have hired an environmental attorney and filed an appeal to stop the project. He believes the County Planners were remiss in the review as everything seemed to be rubber-stamped; without the necessary environmental reviews as required by CEQA. The applicant is now required to perform a new study to supplement 1999 based on the concerns raised by our attorney.

Our goal is $9500. This includes the attorney retainer fee, his travel expenses and ongoing fees, appeal, videographer, photographer, drafting and overlay design services, architect and miscellaneous other charges. Should there be an overage; it will be refunded. If this goes forward on its own momentum without our input, we will be living with it. We would greatly appreciate your participation in the funding of the appeal as well as any assistance you can give in getting the word out.

Please plan to attend the Appeal hearing in person in the Board of Supervisors Chambers rescheduled for Tuesday, September 24th at 9:00 am at 1055 Monterey St., San Luis Obispo. Time is of the essence. Thank you for your consideration! [email redacted] [email redacted]
