Protect the Air We All Share
We are a group of concerned citizens and neighbors who are challenging a compressor station proposed by Adelphia Gateway in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The PA Department of Environmental Protection recently granted a Clean Air Permit for this project.* We are fighting a legal appeal to this permit, and are asking for help to cover our legal fees.
The proposed compressor station plan would shoehorn a large natural gas compression facility onto less than two acres of land in a quiet residential neighborhood. This compressor station will be a major pollution source. Adelphia’s own plan states that the compressor could release over 25 tons per year of Nitrogen Oxide gases into the air. Formaldehyde, methane, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are also released. This will foul the air that we all breathe and there are concerns as to how well release levels are monitored. Regulatory bodies within the industry hold a different standard than medical and toxicologist findings in the community. This is not just a local issue to the residents of West Rockhill and Richland Township. It affects the area around Quakertown and wide areas into Bucks and Berks Counties. Beyond the concerns to humans, wildlife will also be affected.
This neighborhood is zoned residential/conservation.
Regulatory bodies have determined that these compressor stations should be built on at least five acres of land with adequate buffer. This compression station would be on a significantly smaller property.
In addition to air pollution, the project has the potential to sour the water we all drink. As more nitrogen gas enters the atmosphere, it will be absorbed by the highly productive swamp and surrounding wetland areas, altering the chemistry of the water.
Our group has hired an environmental attorney and we have filed an appeal to the DEP Governing Board stating that the Adelphia proposal violates the right of all citizens to clean air. Good legal representation is expensive. Even though our attorney is giving us a discount rate, we have already spent over $7,000. We are asking other concerned neighbors and citizens to support our cause
PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR NEIGHBORS WHO ARE FIGHTING THE ADELPHIA GATEWAY. All money raised through this campaign, 100%, will go to pay legal fees.
No donation is too small. Donors who give at least $100 will receive our sticker that says: “Protect the Air We All Share” while supplies last.
Thank You,
Citizens for Clean Air
