Protect the Annulus

Donation protected
Hello friends! My name is Brandon Hansen and I am the inventor of the Annulus. If you aren't aware of what that is, you can think of it as a kind of Sun- & Moon-Dial. If you are aware, then you also know I’ve been pouring my heart & soul into this project for the last 3 years.

Unfortunately, I’ve been a bad inventor, and have published information about the Annulus on my website and blog during 2022. This means that I am speeding toward deadlines regarding applying for a Patent.

Luckily, I have finally (finally!) found an IP lawyer willing to take my case, and help me through the multi-year process of filing, as well as other avenues of protection, at the Workman-Nydegger firm. Matthew is really cool and excited about the invention.

Building a portfolio of legal protection around this idea will help give me the confidence to share it on a larger scale, and be prepared for opportunities to have it grow and flourish in the world. I hope that if you have experienced my passion for the Annulus and want to help me succeed, or if you want to have an Annulus of your own in the not-too-distant future, please consider donating what you can to this venture!

A breakdown of what funds will be used for:

$1500 = Provisional Patent : This amount is needed urgently to file an application very shortly. The Provisional version of the application will allow me to secure a priority date for consideration, and give the Annulus “Patent Pending” status for the remainder of 2023.

$3000 = PP + TM : Asside from Patenting, Trademarks and Copyrights can be used to protect the Annulus more immediately, so funds will be funneled toward this avenue over the next year before we invest in a true, more expensive Patent application.

$8000 = Design Patent : This is the cheaper Patent option in the U.S. that allows for protection of the way the Annulus appears. Most of the fees associated will be toward the Drawing artist, as they are judged pretty exclusively on imagery. The Annulus will require dozens of drawings of each variation at different angles

$12,000 = Utility Patent : This is the regular kind of patent you might think of, which protects the underlying invention in the object, including the way it is made as well as how it is used. This method is more labor intensive, especially regarding the legal writing and back-and-forth arguments with the Patent Office. This would require that a Provisional Patent is filed first, so there would be enough time to craft a full, thorough application.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am just one individual, and really more of an artist than an entrepreneur. But I truly believe I have created something worth patenting, and I would love to have the opportunity to argue my case during this closing window. I will be bootstrapping as much of the writing process as I can manage on my own, and will only use attorney assistance where necessary to help keep costs down. Any extra funds will be put into the launch of the first boards.
Thank you sincerely for reading, and considering a donation or investment into the Annulus and its future success! If you want to keep up with its development, you can visit www.annularastro.space.
