Protect The Vulnerable In Crown Heights
Donación protegida
Crown Heights, Brooklyn has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have some of the highest fatalities and infection rates in the country. On top of that, already vulnerable people are losing work and struggling simply to eat and stay healthy.
But the good news is that there are incredible organizations stepping up to help those who are in need. And they need our help.
1. The Campaign Against Hunger - Delivering hundreds of pre-packed bags of nutritious food to families in need. They've seen a 400% increase in clients in the past two weeks, and so they desperately need more help.
2. St. John's Bread & Life - Another food pantry helping the needy in Crown Heights and beyond. They normally give out 3,000+ meals a day, and are expecting that number to double or triple in the coming weeks.
3. Hatzalah of Crown Heights - A Hasidic volunteer emergency response organization, they are on the frontlines of the fight against the coronavirus among their population. Especially for those who cannot afford healthcare, they are indispensable.
4. The Gedaliah Society - A Hasidic organization of medical professionals that provides a hotline for those in need (for physical and emotional help) as well as an errand service that takes care of food pick ups and other needs for those most vulnerable to COVID-19.
When I first posted about the plight of Crown Heights, I did not expect the outpouring of those offering to help.
With that in mind, I decided that although I am deeply connected to the Jewish community here, that this would be an opportunity to help the diverse communities of Crown Heights be helped together, and at once.
That's why the above organizations will all be funded through this campaign: we are all in this together, and we are united. Such moments help reveal that: if we did not all stay in, and did not all step up to help each other, we could not survive this.
This is an opportunity to take our giving to the next level and to help all who may need it in our community (or to help a community in need if you are not from here).
Thank you to all who give!
PS - All proceeds will be split evenly between each organization. All organizations are aware of this fundraiser and have given their blessing for it to go forward.
