Square Lake Conservation Fund

Tax deductible
Square Lake Association (SLA) is a four-decade old, non-profit, community-based, homeowners organization, committed to natural resource preservation, conservation, stewardship, and community collaboration. Our mission is to protect and preserve Square Lake and the surrounding watershed for future generations by working together with homeowners, lake users, and community and government leaders.

Square Lake Conservancy (SLC) is an expanded community-based group of conservation stewards, committed to Square Lake and Wilder Forest natural resource preservation. As beneficial lake and woodland users, Conservancy members are actively “paying it forward” – to current and future generations - to protect and preserve Square Lake and Wilder Forest’s pristine natural beauty, clarity, quietude, and ecological balance.

The goals of our Square Lake Conservancy are listed on page four of our 25-page Call to Action, which we invite you to watch and read via this link: Square Lake Conservancy Call to Action - Narration. Simply click the audio button at the bottom left of the opening screen, and slide the button on the right side of the screen to advance the presentation. The narration occurs in the video segment.

Our GoFundMe mission is to assist the Square Lake Association and May Township community protect & preserve the Lake, watershed, and Conservancy District, from irreparable harm.

This area is considered to be one of the largest and most ecologically significant remaining unprotected natural areas in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The DNR and Washington County have classified this area as possessing high-quality natural resources, including Natural Environmental Lakes, with many defined in "pre-settlement condition", rich hardwood forests, numerous bogs, wetlands, grasslands, and native shoreline along the various pristine lakes. It is home to many native wildlife of the upper Midwest that are on the endangered, threatened, and special concern species list.

Current events are converging that will directly impact Square Lake, and other unprotected natural areas in the surrounding community of May Township. The expectations of these current events will dramatically impact the local environment, roads, trails, and quality of life. They will also be detrimental to the beautiful natural landscape and pristine waters of Square Lake, May Lake, Clear Lake, West Boot Lake, East Boot Lake, and South Terrapin Lake, included in the May Township Conservancy District.

It is important that we protect & preserve these unique, natural environment "gems", so they will endure for future generations to appreciate. We have formed this funding site for the Square Lake Conservation Fund, to support the growing legal consultation costs and environmental impact measurement costs, to help protect this beautiful land and water.

Our Square Lake Association Board of Directors respectfully requests your tax-deductible donation to help us fund the legal costs, and environmental impact research, to advance conservation, and natural resource preservation, efforts and actions in 2023-2024.

Thanks in advance for your support.
