Protecting the Hands of Our Heroes
Donation protected
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, when it became clear that healthcare workers were struggling with a lack of equipment, we at Visolis (a sustainability-focused biotech startup located in Hayward, CA) decided to donate our extra protective gear. We partnered with HealthRIGHT 360, a local healthcare non-profit focused on serving our most vulnerable community members, to make sure the materials went to those who needed them most.
But the Visolis team wanted to do more. Following discussions with local medical professionals, we decided to develop a new hand sanitizer formulation that would better protect the skin of hard-working doctors and nurses – rather than leaving their hands dried out and skin cracked after repeated use – and donate it to these frontline heroes.
Having spent the past five years developing eco-friendly products, including multiple skincare ingredients, we had the necessary background knowledge. Within five days, our team developed a unique plant-based formulation using clinically-proven ingredients that greatly increase the barrier properties of the skin and moisturize the hands with each use. Of course, it also contains over 60% ethanol, as recommended by the CDC, to sanitize the skin and keep users safe.
We have already donated a test batch of 500 bottles to healthcare workers and have gotten positive feedback, both on the product itself (that it feels nice, more like a lotion) and on the timing of the donation (since all supplies are backordered). We have now produced over 1,000 more bottles to donate to local hospitals and clinics and are in the process of securing more raw materials to produce larger batches, up to 2,500 bottles per week, moving forward.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
In order to continue producing hand sanitizer to donate, especially in larger-scale batches, we need your help. Contributions of any size will help offset the costs of raw materials, manufacturing, and packaging. 100 percent of your donations will go towards producing hand sanitizer to be donated to hospitals, clinics, and other organizations with acute need.
Thank you so much for your help and stay safe!
P. S. As a token of our appreciation, we would like to send all donors a small bottle of the sanitizer -- once there is no longer a shortage at hospitals and clinics. We don't automatically receive any of your contact information from GoFundMe, so if you’re interested, please provide us your contact information via our website here.
