Protecting the Waters - A Fundraiser for CRAFT
Donation protected
Please join us in supporting CRAFT, a local, grassroots, Indigenous-led environmental activism effort. Jessie Pauline Collins and Jesse Deer In Water, an incredibly devoted mother/son team of earth and water protectors, serve as the backbone for CRAFT - Citizens Resistance Against Fermi Two. Together, with a small team of dedicated volunteers, they are working tirelessly to protect the Great Lakes region -- even $3 or $5 donations can make an enormous difference!
CRAFT is diligently working to shut down Fermi 2, which is a rickety and faltering nuclear reactor on the shore of Lake Erie. The reactor is owned, operated, and poorly maintained” by DTE, our regional gas and electric utility company. Not only is CRAFT working to protect the Great Lakes and the overall environment from potential (and likely) radioactive disaster, they are also working to convince DTE to shift to renewable energy sources.
Jesse is taking steps in the direction of doing this work full time. In this past year, he has stepped up his hours, secured an office space at the North American Indian Association in Detroit, and is building a wider team of helpers/interns. CRAFT is excited about strengthening national networks by forming coalitions of people who are facing the exact same challenges and injustices from many places in the footprint of the nuclear fuel chain.
CRAFT holds a vision of the future where a People’s Energy Plan for renewable, local, community-owned energy is part of a solid solution to our environmental crisis. This next year is important for the organization in these efforts, and anything you can contribute helps them move closer to these goals!
All funds donated here will go directly to CRAFT. For those of you who would like to make a substantial donation and need it to be tax-deductible, we have a way to set that up through a non-profit fiscal sponsor. Please contact Robin at robin[at]trueearth[dot]org for more information.
Jessie does a monthly newsletter that will begin its 8th year next month. You can sign up for CRAFT’s newsletter by emailing them at [email redacted][dot]com
