Protect the future of wolf puppies

We are over the moon excited to announce that Joy (F1227) and M1139 have had puppies! A litter of seven healthy puppies - four males and three females!
With less than 400 Mexican gray wolves in the world, having this litter born at our center is truly a special occasion. Our involvement in the Mexican Wolf Species Survival Plan captive breeding program is just one way the California Wolf Center is helping to prevent Mexican gray wolves from becoming extinct.
While we watch this adorable litter grow up, we are hopeful that one day they will be released into the Southwestern wild. They deserve the chance to prevent the wild extinction of their subspecies. And yet, we know one of the largest threats they would face is poaching. We refuse to sit idly by while there is work to do in the field that will save the lives of Mexican gray wolves, including those individuals we have had the opportunity to see grow up in our care.
We established the Mexican Wolf Fund in 2011 as a way to do just that. Proactive nonlethal tools and experienced field personnel are a consistent funding need. Last year, the wild population decreased for the first time since recovery efforts began, so it is imperative we increase our field efforts.
Just like Joy and M1139, wild Mexican gray wolf breeding pairs are raising their own puppies. This next month is critical to preventing wolf-livestock interactions, as research shows that when wolf packs are denning there is a greater risk of livestock depredation. Help us raise $12,000 in the next thirty days to protect wild wolves and newborn wild pups through our coexistence efforts!
