Protester Representation
Donation protected
Community is sacrificing health and safety to advocate for Black Lives. Smith Law LLC is offering pro bono legal support for protesters. They are showing up. We will too. Funds will be used for the costs associated with legal representation. Any remaining funds will be donated to other organizations or individuals directly in need. There is no max as excess funds will be redistributed. There will be an accounting of how the money is spent and who it goes towards. Talitha Hazelton stayed up all night, June 1st, to draft a personal restraint petition to challenge the King County Superior Court's arbitrary denial of Preliminary hearings for close to 100 if not more people held in the King County Jail and the RJC, on June 1st. The petition, filed before 8 am on June 2nd, is on behalf of one client but the briefing framework can be used for others. We completed jail visits and are getting documents signed. The first writ has already been filed and we're churning out more. Attorneys in the community have graciously offered their assistance. The plan is to accept cases and provide assistance within our capacity. We will be providing community we assist with funds as community should be compensated for their emotional labor and voices. #payThePeople *Upped the limit just to keep accepting.
