Provide a Memory Bench for the McVicar Family

Hi, My name is Kristi, and I am one of many who would like to raise money for a memory bench for Scott and Ellen McVicar and family. As many of you know, they lost their son Lucas unexpectedly, December 9th, 2023. Anyone who knew Lucas, would remember his smile. I didn't know Lucas well, but my brief interactions with him when he worked at Giant Eagle was light and fun. His smile was beautiful and you could just tell that his heart was warm.

One of the reasons this bench, in memory of Lucas, seemed like a great idea; for any of you friends with Ellen on Facebook, you could see the pure joy on her face from summer pictures as she, Scott and Casey (their dog) walked the bike path. Everyone looked to be enjoying the view, the air, the sun, and just being together. I thought this bench would be a great way to put smiles back on their faces. They can walk the path, enjoy the sun, then sit on the memory bench and remember their time with Lucas. This would be a place where any one who knew, or was close with Lucas could sit and reminisce.

The bench and construction would be $2600, with any remainder I would love to keep the area surrounded by flowers, or plant a memory tree. Any funds past my goal would be given to the McVicar family or to the Marietta Community Foundation to present a graduating senior with a Lucas McVicar scholarship from Marietta High School, where Lucas attended school.

Ellen was a teacher during Covid to my youngest and he really enjoyed working with her. When he found out about the tragedy he wanted to do something nice for her. Connecting their happiness pictured on the bike path with a way to memorialize Lucas, the bench by the river, seemed most fitting.
