Provide equipment & supplies for midwives in Timor-Leste
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Kelly Langford and I am a founding midwife of MAMA; Victoria's first private midwifery clinic. I have a longstanding connection to Timor-Leste (East Timor), ever since my sister started doing Timor related volunteer work in 1999.
In 2024 I visited Timor for the first time. We had spoken to the APTL (Timor midwive's association) to find out what was most needed in the maternal and newborn care space. We fundraised $3,500 and took 12 dopplers over. Whilst there, I made connections with some local midwives who are working in remote health facilities that are severely lacking resources. The clinic we visited in Gleno had run out of suture material and were expecting to get their next delivery in a month, or two. For a facility that births 30-50 women a month, this was extremely concerning to me. We were able to source 30 suture materials from local pharmacies, and have set up arrangements with pharmacies in Dili to enable us to order supplies locally.
The donations in this Gofundme will be used to purchase much needed medical equipment & supplies that will be requested by the midwives, sourced locally and picked up directly by the midwives in Timor-Leste.
