God has provided me with the opportunity to serve this summer at TVR for my second year! TVR is a Christian camp in the mountains of North Carolina, and every year they have a nineweek-long summer camp where they reach, altogether, over 1,500 youth from all over the southeast. Each week around 200 kids (from 3rd graders to seniors in high school) come to TVR to spend the week having a blast in the beauty of God’s creation, as the gospel is shared and demonstrated through worship, teaching, cabin devotions, and even morning quiet times (personal Bible study) that we provide for campers and model for them how to continue when they go home.
So, it’s not surprising that it takes a lot of staff to run and facilitate this summer camp ministry. This summer, I have the awesome privilege of being one of these staff members that gets to be on the front lines of ministry. There will be numerous ways to serve God, through serving the kids that come to TVR this summer. Potentially, I will be able to serve in the kitchen helping make around 900 meals a day! Or, I could be on work staff keeping the grounds, building campfires, or running the Snack Shack. There are also many summer staff that are camp counselors who stay with their cabins 24/7 (when they aren’t running activities like the climbing tower and the zipline) and are able to pour into the lives of youth they are entrusted with that week. Either way, God has a plan for me to serve Him in one or all of these capacities and I can’t wait to find out what that looks like this summer at TVR!
Each week of camp we are blessed to see the lives of campers changed. But if you have ever worked at a camp, you know that the ministry does not happen without the support of many people. I will be challenged not only in my own walk with Christ, but also by helping others in their walks and possibly even introducing some to Him for the first time. It will involve many late nights and early mornings, but I am humbled and excited to see how God will use me for His Kingdom.
