Provide Meals to Those in Need..
Hi, my name is Ahmad. I am a local Chef and food truck owner in St. Petersburg, Florida. After every hurricane in Florida for the past three years I have gone to the sites of disaster and provided as many hot meals as I can to those in need. Usually taking my team (friends and family) we load up our trucks with what we can, getting out as much as 600 meals a day.
Unfortunately due to Hurricane Idalia my food truck was impacted and did get flooded. Because of that, it is currently at the mechanic with a hefty amount of damage. I will be honest, the day after the storm I was completely distraught not knowing the future of my business. I quickly realized instead of sitting around and waiting I can use my time for the better and get back to what I am passionate about - feeding people in need.
Therefore after Hurricane Idalia my team and I headed to Crystal River for 8 days straight. We rotated between team members. We gave out close to 5,500 meals in those 8 days. Setting up tents and tables, we made it work. My goal is to go back up to North Florida, where there are still many many people that are in need and help out as much as possible.
It has become a passion of mine and I am in the beginning stages of starting my own Nonprofit Organization. Hurricanes are unpredictable but my goal is to be prepared enough so that when one hits, I can be on site as quickly as I can.
The cost of an average meal is $5. That includes a protein, starch and veggies. Being a Chef, I like to give a meal that leaves a person coming back for more. Just because it’s “free” doesn’t mean it needs to lack flavor or quality.
After a natural disaster people can be left homeless and hungry. The least we can do as a community is make sure that they are provided with a delicious hot meal.
Thank you all,
Ahmad
