Providence Village - 60 Years of History

Donation protected
Providence Village - Bacchus Marsh - Victoria

Providence Village, located in Bacchus Marsh in Victoria, has been a testament to the volunteer work of prominent Dutch/Australian citizens for 60 years.

The Providence Auxiliary began in 1957 with the commencing of a children's orphanage as the result of families where breakdowns occurred and children were left without care or unable to be cared for by other family members.

Over the years, after a change in government policy on caring for children, this committee transitioned their efforts and re-established the same site for caring for Dutch origin families requiring aged care facilities.

Years of volunteering, generous contributions and tireless efforts of families, they have raised funds, conducted tireless working bees, entertained the residents and brought relief to the residents.

Sixty years on the Providence Village has been handed over to the Catholic Aged
Care - Villa Maria for their exclusive use for no return to the founders, the committee and volunteers.

The committee is now folding and the last of the funds handed over to  Villa Maria Catholic Care to support the elderly.

We have been collating 60 years stories, photos and highlights from the families to tell the story and efforts of all the Dutch/Australian Community that have assisted and contributed over the 60 years.

In order to preserve this tremendous effort and tell their story, we are going to create a book of stories and lots of pictures:

"The Story of providence Village - 1957-2017"

Many of the volunteers/contributors are well known in the Dutch community and have provided countless hours of support, goods and time such as:-
- Fr Leo Maas, Fr Van Uden,  Leny Zeegers, Cees & Jo Tesselaar, Leo and Truus Schoenmaekers, Jo & Rie Schreurs, Martin & Magda Westiende, Pete Castricum,  Jim & Helen van De Linden,  Mary & Simon Gijsberts, Dora Klep, Srja & Mien Baggen, Lea & John Longayroux, Tony & Henk Romijn, Ettie & Frans De Bruin, Annie & Henk Koelewyn,  Mien & Frans Boeren, Jos Mangelsdorf… with their families and many many more supporters through the 60 years.

We are seeking funding of $20,000.00 to assist us in the writing, publication and the distribution of the "The Story of Providence Village -1957 to 2017.

The books will be distributed free of charge to the families and friends of the Auxiliary Committee, previous volunteers, contributors and interested parties.

Anyone who  contributes $100 or more will also receive a copy of the book at no charge if you wish.
