Hi, I’m Sean
Here in Spain, there are an overwhelming number of stray cats. Many are sick and hungry, and I believe every single one of their lives has value.
When we moved to a village in Andalucía, I was initially delighted to see so many cats around. But that feeling quickly turned to despair when we started noticing their condition - malnourished, sick, injured, riddled with parasites. The sheer number of them. And then, the heartbreak of finding them dead, again and again.
The Problem
Spain has a huge stray cat population, with multiple unchecked colonies found on most streets. Sadly, many people view them as pests.
Neutering is rare, and one unspayed female can have multiple litters a year, rapidly worsening the issue. These cats are often sick, starving, and neglected - struggling just to survive.
Our Local Situation
On our street alone, we counted over 30 strays in just one colony. None were neutered or spayed, some were injured, and most were malnourished and infested with parasites.
Local animal associations are already beyond capacity, and the town council has provided no support, even after multiple visits and requests to the town hall.
UPDATE: we've found another uncontrolled colony and the situation is dire.
Action
Unable to ignore their suffering, we took it upon ourselves to step in. Here's what we've been doing:
- Daily feeding
- Providing clean drinking water
- Vet care for the sick and/or injured
- Emergency hospitalisation in severe cases
- Anti-parasite treatments (internal & external)
- Providing insulated shelters for the harsh winters
And most importantly:
- Spaying as many female cats as we can
- Neutering male cats when possible
It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey, and we’ve seen the huge difference it makes - but it’s also taken a serious toll on our time, energy, and finances. Right now, our resources are stretched thin, and vital vet visits are becoming harder to manage. That’s why I’m reaching out. Any support, no matter the amount, truly helps.
How donations help:
URGENT:
- Life-saving treatment for José. (~250€ +)
Found yesterday in another colony with an infected puncture wound on his belly—likely a week old. Having been unable to eat or drink during that time, little José is now dangerously malnourished and dehydrated, with an extremely high fever and no energy to walk. He's currently hospitalised and receiving treatment at the local vet clinic. Fingers crossed.

ATTENTION:
- Necessary vet treatment for Oreo, Buddy, and Grumbles. (~200€ x 3)
- Spaying for female cats. (105€ each incl. post care)
MAINTENANCE:
- Food (~65€ per week)
- Neutering for male cats (75€ per cat incl. post care)
- Parasite treatments (15€ per cat every 3 months)
- Ongoing vet care (~65€ - ~150€+ per visit)
Thank you
If you’ve read this far - thank you.
If you can help - thank you even more.
These cats have no voice, but we do. And with your support, we can keep fighting for them.
