Dear Friends and Family,

It is with an unbearably heavy heart that we share the devastating news that our dad, Prudencio "Freddie" Manlises, passed away on the 15th of March 2024. His four children, wife, sister, and niece were with him on the day of passing. He died peacefully in his sleep.

We have set up this fundraiser, in his loving memory, to appeal for help with his funeral costs, and to make sure that Freddie is given the best possible send-off. All contributions will help more than you know, and will be received with both love and our deepest appreciation.

Prudencios Story

Freddie was born on 28th April 1936 in Mindoro, Philippines and migrated to the UK in 1971.

He spent his youth working the rice fields on his family’s land and in his late teens left school early to work and earn money to support his younger siblings through school so that they could finish their education.

He married his first wife Ruby and had a beautiful daughter Maricris "Chrissie" Manlises. Typical of his endearing sense of humour, she was named after the phrase "Merry Christmas”, as she was born on 25th December 1972. Just four short years later, Freddie suffered the loss of his first wife and raised Chrissie as a single father.

He spent a decade as a single parent to ensure that his daughter was set up for success, and met his next love, Leticia, on New Years Eve 1986. They married in 1988 and had 3 sons together; Joshua, Jacob and Joseph, who he would affectionately refer to as his “three kings”. He was 57 when he started his new family.

During this time, his health took a turn for the worse. He started losing his eyesight around the time his youngest son, Joseph, was born, which forced him into early retirement.

And yet, despite staring down the barrel of early retirement, partial blindness, pneumonia, COPD, and several other health issues that would challenge him, he spent his retirement years constantly preaching about family, quality time and the importance of laughing through life.

There was never a day where he didn’t smile, laugh, and spread joy to friends, family, neighbours and even strangers. He was a man of God, and served his church, his family, and his community with pride.

He is the most selfless man we have ever had the privilege to know.

His personal values of humility, service and family are very clear and he demonstrated them in the way he lived his life.

Freddie is survived by his wife and four children.

We love you Dad, not a day goes by we don’t think of you and laugh at the memories we created together, you will be forever missed!

As a family we thank you for helping us to honour his memory by taking the time to read this abridged version of his story

With love, the Manlises Family.
