Do it because you want to.

Hi, my name is Nancy. I am 55 years old, married with one daughter. I hope if you ask people that know me, they would say I was a nice caring person. I always tell people that I don’t sing or play an instrument, but I love people and I feel like I have a gift of making friends easily. I feel that no matter what happens or how we feel, we should always offer to help or lookout for one another. In the past month I have done acts of kindness “just because” and found myself being question by others.
A few days ago, I noticed an elderly man eating alone in a restaurant. He made eye contact with a toddler beside his table and his face lit up like a Christmas tree. His smile was genuine and I couldn't help but wonder if he was lonely. With that in mind I told the waitress I wanted to pay for his meal. The waitress responded quickly “why, he is a millionaire”? I smiled and told her I still wanted to pay. I don’t care how much or how little the man has, for a split second I hoped the act of kindness would warm his heart.
Yesterday, as I placed what little change I had in the bell ringers bucket, I heard a couple behind me say “people are crazy for putting money in there, it doesn’t really help the needy”. As I drove home, I wondered when did we stop trusting each other. Why do you do acts of kindness with expectations of getting something back. If you give, give because you want to.
I am asking for a $1.00 donation. I would have asked for a quarter, but you can’t. I want you to donate because I asked you to. I want you to give because you want to. I have a need, but I want you to trust me without knowing my need.
I am nervous to hit post, but excited to see how many people will do this.
Thanks in advance!
