Long Live Soons !!

Soons Sushi Café first opened its doors in 2004 and has since become a sort of staple piece in the Kenosha restaurant space.

The owners Bob and Soon Noel opened this restaurant in Kenosha as an act of love, Soon had previously owned and managed a Korean restaurant in Korea, and always had the dream of having a place to call her own in the states, a place to bring her native Korean cooking and fresh Sushi to the city of Kenosha that she has called home for the last 17 years.

They stuck a good portion of their retirement and savings into getting the newly purchased building up and running, a scary venture for anyone, much less a couple starting from scratch at retirement age.

People always seem to say that they come for the best tasting sushi and the great flavors of the Korean food but stay for the way Bob and Soon are so welcoming and friendly to each and every one. Over the years Soons really has grown into a staple piece in the Kenosha restaurant space with amazing food at an affordable price.

In June of 2019 – Soons Sushi Café experience a kitchen fire that had caused extensive damages and left many people wondering what the future may hold for the now iconic sushi restaurant.

Our Initial thoughts and hopes were that the restaurant would be back up and running in just a few short months, but sadly that was not the case.

The renovations have been riddled with problems that has since delayed the re-opening, a lot of these issues stem from the restaurant needing major upgrades in order to bring it up to current code as previously it had been grandfathered due to the age of the building, so now the project went from a renovation to basically a reconstruction.

The insurance policy had covered the loss of equipment, food, and structural damages to the point of bringing the restaurant back to its prior condition, but does not include any of the upgrades that are needed to bring the building up to code, thus these expenses are passed onto the owners, and are costly.

Lastly, and to add fuel to the fire the restaurant was vandalized on May 31st during the protests and riots that occurred, thus further delaying the restaurant opening.

Today we are humbly asking the community that has come to know and love Soons Sushi Café to help us resurrect the place that we all have come to love for great food and conversation.

Any donation would help as we miss seeing our “Soonies”, probably as much as people miss us.
