Hello, this fundraiser is for my brother, Matthew, aka "Matt", he passed away unexpectedly on July 20th in Phoenix, AZ. Support is needed to cover the remaining costs of his celebration of life. Zelle or Venmo is preferred (because they don’t charge a fee)

My brother Matthew passed away last Thursday, July 20. He didn’t have any identification on him so it took the medical examiner's office a few days to run his fingerprints and find me (since my name and number have been used for all of his things) and my sister Sarah, they called me at 9:23 am on Wednesday 7/26 to let me know he was found unresponsive at a bus stop in Phoenix. He was transported to a hospital where they could not revive him. They said there was no foul play involved and determined his death was heat related. It was 117 degrees on the 20th, the hottest day we’ve had this summer so far. I won’t have the full report from the medical examiner's office until his case is closed which can be up to 90 days. At this point, I’m organizing the funeral, and funding is our primary concern (he had $800 in savings but no possessions or anything else to his name).

As of now, the funeral service will be on Friday, August 11th in Phoenix off 12th Street and McDowell in the afternoon. More details to come.

I was close with my brother, we grew up together, and he lived with me while he was in recovery, I did my best to care for him after he moved into his own place, and I advocated for him due to his mental illness to make sure he was treated fairly and with compassion. Between and after these good times, there were plenty of struggles he went through. My heart hurts to lose my only brother.
