PT in the Community (Denver 2020)
Donation protected
My name is Patrick Berner, a licensed physical therapist and founding member of this grassroots initiative, currently serving as the chair.
These funds will be used to support "PT in the Community," a grassroots initiative with the mission "To impact the lives of locals living in the community that we visit for National PT Conferences, with an emphasis in school-aged children and the homeless population."
Specifically, funds will be used during Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) 2020 in Denver, CO. For those who may not know, CSM is the nation's largest physical therapy conference, brining together upwards of 17,000 individuals each year. A tremendous opportunity to give back to the communities in which we visit.
The initiative is two-fold, educating school-aged children and helping the homeless population, the funds will be split evenly to support both efforts.
For the kids/schools, supplies for the physical education department of numerous Denver public schools will be purchased. Items like balance pads, exercise bands, and other equipment we can help relate an understanding of physical therapy, but also overall health.
For the homeless, care package supplies with items such as socks, gloves, toilet paper, snacks, etc. will be purchased and put together in collaboration with Woody's Haven of Hope, a local Denver homeless shelter.
Funds will be transferred from Go Fund Me and used immediately to cover expenses of purchased supplies.
Deadline for collection of funds will be February 1st, 2020, in order to allow enough time to have items shipped and organized for our time on-site, February 12-15th.
These efforts are currently supported by the Colorado chapter of APTA, Denver Public Schools, multiple sections of the APTA, University of Colorado, and Regis University.
We greatly appreciate your support!
