Friends & fans of Claira Janover:
As you may know, our remarkable Claira has recently outlived her mother, Madeleine Janover, the woman who nurtured her into the fearless fighter we all know and love today.
Madeleine Janover suffered from Ovarian cancer until her recent passing on Sunday, February 3rd. For the past few years, Claira has quietly sacrificed more than most of us will ever be able to grasp. She spent ruthless hours packing up all of her and her mother's collective possessions so that they could, four times, move into more affordable housing. She spent her fall semester quietly driving back and forth from Harvard to her home in New Haven, working extra shifts to cover medical bills, administering her mother's potent medicine, taking care of all legal and financial responsibilities, and, ultimately, redirecting all of her energies to serve as her mother's full-time caretaker. Claira Janover did all of this while maintaining her academic drive and managing all of her extra curricular activities, in addition to being the most thoughtful, humble, passionate friend she is.
As one of the most mature and selfless individuals out there, Claira doesn't ask for help, nor does she expect anything of anyone. To many of us, her situation is so unfathomable that we don't know what the most effective means of supporting her is. She would never accept donations from specific people, but she wouldn't have a choice if we present her with a pool of donations from the people who love her most. Here's to giving back to someone who has contributed so damn much to our lives, and to Madeleine Janover, who died the proudest mother on Earth.
