Our dear friend, Chris Martin, has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. Guillain-Barre (gee-YAH-buh-RAY) Syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. It comes on suddenly and there is no stopping the progression of the symptoms. The symptoms typically peak in about two weeks. The symptoms often peak leaving the affected person with total paralysis (quadriplegia) and sometimes requiring the person to be dependent on a ventilator for survival .
On July 16th, 2018, Chris started having muscle weakness and prickling sensations in his lower extremities which spread throughout his body. Within 24 hours, Chris was unable to move his legs, his arms and even his hands and fingers. Chris was hospitalized and after a series of tests, he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
There's no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome. There are many cases in which people make a full recovery. We are praying that Chris is one of these success stories. Even if Chris is a success story, making a full recovery, that success will only be realized after a very long, difficult and expensive journey to recovery.
As you can imagine, Chris and those that love him are terrified in response to what is happening. We ask that you imagine what Chris and his family are going through and consider donating to help support them during this very difficulty time. Chris will be out of work for an extended period of time, possibly up to one year! He will quickly exhaust all of his annual and sick leave and will not qualify for any disability coverage during this recovery period.
Our dear friend needs your help! Please pray for Chris. Pray that he has no further progression and starts the recovery journey soon. Pray that his recovery is quick and that he maintains a strong, healthy mindset through this terrible time. Please pray for his family as they care for him day in and day out.
