Snoopy's Surgery
Hi friends, family, and pet lovers alike :-)
If you haven't already, meet Snoopy (aka Tater)!
Snoopy was born on 12/18/2020 while his biological mom was being fostered by a sweet family associated with Pawfect Match Rescue and Rehabilitation, which is based out of Holly Springs, NC. He is one of her litter of three; two puppies of which were born with a congenital heart murmur. We were all hopeful this was the type that closes on its own as they grow, but unfortunately is not the case.
We adopted Snoopy on 2/21/21 and took him for his routine puppy exam and vaccine boosters a few weeks later. Snoopy's vet was very concerned by the murmur, and he received an echocardiogram on 3/23/2021 which confirmed that he has a birth defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). PDA, in short, causes his heart to work much harder to pump his blood throughout his body, and if left untreated, will very quickly lead to congestive heart failure and death.
The Doctor who performed the ECG reached out to the Cardiologists at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, who are confident that they can perform the thoracic (open-chest) surgery required to isolate and suture the PDA closed. This needs to be performed ASAP for Snoopy to have the ability to live a long, healthy and happy life with his new adopted family. I will consult with NC State tomorrow to get this scheduled on their calendar immediately.
The surgery ranges from $3,500-$5,500 and is obviously a very unexpected and unplanned large expense after adopting him just four weeks ago. Still, Snoopy is the sweetest, cutest, most playful little boy and is very much considered our newest four-legged baby. We appreciate any and all prayers for his little baby heart, and any financial contribution you may be able to make to go towards his surgery expenses.
Thanks so much in advance for your love and support.
All the best,
Jessica Pope and Drew Rivenbark
(the future Rivenbarks - if Coronavirus ever lets us get married!)
XOXO,
Snoopy and Beau (big brother)
