Pua’s Rehabilitation and Training

A dog named Pua, missing since June, has captivated several small towns in Piscataquis, Somerset, and Penobscot County.

Pua is a 3 year old Great Dane and German Shepherd mix. He is black and gray and has been running wild for the last 4 months. He has been spotted in 3 different counties and a dozen towns on his journey.

Pua ran from his new owner the day he was adopted, was caught two weeks later and escaped again after just a few hours. A Facebook page dedicated Pua’s Sighting was created to help track his whereabouts. Maine Lost Dog Recovery also helped spread the word on their Facebook page with updated fliers. Each community put many hours into helping locate Pua but he was always 4 paws ahead of us.

The last location Pua was spotted was near the Palmyra Walmart. And this is when Pua’s journey came to a happy ending. That’s when Russ Craft a full time ACO of Corinna and Palmyra came into the picture. Russ had his heart set on locating Pua and wasn’t going to give up until he was found. I consider him the Sherlock Holmes of dog catching. He was equipped with cellular cameras, live traps and the knowledge needed to make it happen.

Yesterday (10/3/23) a group of out of state hunters noticed Pua walking around their camp. They contacted Officer Craft and he was able to set a live trap and motion cameras a couple hours later. This morning around 2am he received a notification that an animal was in the live trap. He was shocked and excited to see Pua standing in the live trap. Officer Craft made an announcement today that Pua had been captured and has been transfered to the Somerset Humane Society where he will be well taken care of and working with K9 trainer Tyler Jones of Purpose Pups LLC.
