Introduction for Fundraiser Campaign

Hello! My name is Ashla Abrahams, and I’m a mother, teacher, and a first time writer who is passionate about creating resources that support families facing serious health challenges. After undergoing life-preserving surgery and a long recovery journey, I found that sharing my experiences helped me and my young children understand and process what we were going through together. Inspired by this, I am creating a children’s book, Hooray, Mummy is Home and We’re Here to Help!, to support families with young children who are navigating similar health experiences.

About the Project and Why It Matters

My book shares the journey of a mother recovering from surgery through a child-friendly, illustrated story that helps explain complex medical experiences in ways young children can understand. The book is filled with moments of love, resilience, and support, showing the family as they come together to help one another. The goal is to make it easier for parents to talk to their children about challenging health experiences in a way that reassures them while building empathy and understanding. This story matters deeply to me because, like so many parents, I faced the challenge of helping my children cope with uncertainty and worry, all while managing my own recovery.

How Funds Will Be Used

Funds raised will go toward bringing this vision to life. Specifically:

   •   Illustrations and Design: I am working with a talented illustrator to create artwork that captures the warmth and resilience of family during recovery. Quality illustrations will ensure that children feel engaged and supported by the story.
   •   Editing and Formatting: Professional editing will help ensure the story is clear, sensitive, and suited to young readers. Proper formatting will make the book accessible in print and digital formats.
   •   Printing and Distribution: The funds will also cover the costs of printing initial copies, enabling distribution to families, hospitals, and community centers where they can have the most impact.
   •   Marketing and Outreach: A portion of the funds will be dedicated to promoting the book, particularly to reach families who would benefit most. This includes online marketing, creating informational materials, and working with organizations like the NHS to make the book available in their networks.

With your support, I hope to make this book a resource that comforts and empowers families facing health challenges, helping children understand, process, and feel reassured during difficult times. Thank you for considering supporting this project!
