Pueblo of Laguna Senior Olympics National Trip

"You don't stop playing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop playing!"

We have a group of Laguna and community elders looking to make it to the National Senior Olympics in Pittsburgh this July.

All 9 elders qualified to compete in these games and need help getting funds to register for the event, travel from New Mexico, and pay for lodging and food. They are very excited about this opportunity and need your help! Here are a few reasons to donate:

1. We all know COVID has affected us all, especially the elders. So many elders were isolated during this time and remained at home. This group of elders has used the Senior Olympics as a way to come back together and enjoy staying active, so help support them in staying active.

2. Did you know that New Mexico ranks 50th (last place) in the Nation for elder poverty? Elders have worked and sacrificed for us to have what we have. Remember most elders live on fixed incomes so taking a trip like this to compete in games THEY qualified for is tough, so it is time for us to take care of them.

3. Our elders have been practicing and are excited to take this trip to show off their skills. During the last state games, they brought home 16 medals! Help support their journey to compete for more medals and to have this experience.

The elders have had some help from the community in raising money, as well as hosting grocery bingos, fundraisers, and booths at the feasts. They have been working hard to raise enough money for all of them to go compete. We have been asked, "What are you going to do if you don't raise enough money?" The truth is, not all of the Olympians will be able to go.

So PLEASE donate and HELP US reach our goal so we can get ALL of the Senior Olympians to Pittsburgh and represent the Pueblo of Laguna community and the State of New Mexico!
