Puerto Rico Baila/Puerto Rico Dance

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Cesar Abreu and I am a dancer in the city of New York, currently in my 12th season dancing for The Metropolitan Opera.
I am originally from Bayamón, Puerto Rico and on September 20, the island suffered one of the worst storms in over 100 years. Hurricane Maria, a powerful category 5 storm ravaged through my beautiful island relentlesly leaving nothing but darkness and devastation- resulting in unfortunate catastrophic losses.
A little over a month ago I started an initiative at the Metropolitan Opera, hoping to send basic needs to the island though a non profit organization here in New York. After receiving full support from The Met, the response I received from all my colleagues, and even staff who work there work there and who I have not even met was really overwhelming. It really showed and reaffirmed my belief in the power of Love and of people coming together during a time of crisis and for that I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude.
Thanks to that effort and to the generosity of many people at the Metropolitan opera we were able to send to the non profit organization over 25 boxes filled with products of things that were really needed in the island…so overjoyed with how successful that turned out.
The situation in Puerto Rico is still challenging and although the future is still uncertain, given the amount of structural, physical devastation the island has suffered it is not a reason to sit and wait. This only means that my efforts must be greater in ensuring that people on the island feel supported and encouraged by those of us who are able to help. If I am able to help then I MUST!
I was born and raised on the island and I am the person and artist that I’ve become because of the support and love that I’ve ALWAYS received from my family who I adored, friends and also the unconditional support and affection I receive from people  I get to meet everytime I come visit my beautiful island.

As a performer Puerto Rico gave me my first stage and an opportunity to do what I LOVE, and to follow my passion no matter what. I have being able to share my passion with students and teachers there  by getting the opportunity to teach Master Classes which is something that is extremely rewarding and fulfilling. The youth represents the future of “UN PUEBLO”, and to impact in a positive way the development of a young artist is something that no words could ever come close to describe.
So in that spirit, I’ve come up with Phase 2 (FASE 2) and I have decided to name it: PUERTO RICO Baila/ Puerto Rico Dances! Concentrating my efforts in helping dance students on the island. I have decided to send donations to two schools where I’ve had the incredible honor of teaching: School of Performing Arts in Guaynabo- and the Julian Blanco School in San Juan which specializes in Ballet.
The goal is to help rebuild some of the classrooms and floors which were quite damage by the hurricane, and also to send  dance uniforms to students there and equip them with what they need in order to continue their studies as dancers. My goal is simple: Offer support during this time of crisis and show a commitment to their studies as future professional dancers.

“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness”  -Desmond Tutu

I’ve started a Gofund me page in order to make this dream a possibility and I am asking to whoever is reading this and want to join me in my efforts to visit the link and donate what you can. No amount is to small or too big in creating a different reality for those affected by this unfortunate event. If you feel like donating dance clothes please feel free to inbox me and I can send you specifics of to their uniform.  Once we get ready to send donations to Puerto Rico I will be posting pictures of everything and I will be letting everyone know of all the developments of this campaign.
Once again THANK YOU for taking your time in visiting the page and thank you for joining me in this labor of LOVE. Take Care and Believe!
