Punta Cana Pride Needs Your Help!

Hello everyone! It’s that time of year when we begin to prepare for Punta Cana Pride! Our dates this year are June 28th (Premire of Illusions 2024 and late night, Where The Girls Are ) June 29th ( special Illusions Pride Show and late night Where The Boys Are “Censored”) and June 30th (Parade and Beach Party at Soles). Plus We will also be attending and recognized at Santo Domingo Pride in August! So, we are opening up our donation and sponsorship programs. 

As you know, Punta Cana Pride is a new organization and we need lots of help each year for us to grow and make history in the Dominican Republic. Those of you who know us, know that our activism in the LGBTQ+ community has been going on for decades! Micheal Dolly Wilson, our patriarch, and his trans best friend started it all after attending the Martin Luther King, “ I have a dream” speech at 15 years of age!

Our Board members have collected many accolades and achievements including a former Mr Gay World 1986, a former "Top 100 Gay Men in the US," and numerous awards for lifetime achievement and community support! We have hundreds of years in combined activism and are ready to work hard to make Punta Cana and the DR a thriving, caring, diversified, and accepting community! However, we have a few issues to contend with here in the Dominican Republic. 

 

In the early years of Pride, we relied on our female impersonators, other show personnel , and the general LGBTQ+ community to raise money, along with benefits and fundraisers, to hold our annual Pride events. Well folks, it's like we are back in the 90s here in PC and we need your help for multiple reasons. The first being the economic challenges faced by our artists and the LGBTQ+ community at large in the Dominican Republic. Second, our normal international commercial sponsorships are not present in the DR and are unable to assist us. Therefore, I am calling upon all of you in our international LGBTQ+ community to lend a hand in helping us continue to grow this incredible community here in the DR. 

 

Here is the challenge: We ask all of you, your friends, allies, and anyone in the corporate sector who supports LGBTQ+ initiatives, to donate and help us continue our dream of Pride in Punta Cana and all of the DR! It takes a village, so we are calling on our village! Any amount helps. Back in the day, we put Pride together on drag droppings. Well we don’t even have that!

We have a saying LOVE IS LOVE that we used to get marriage equality in the Untied States. Now that we have that right, it’s up to us to help people around the world obtain the same Rights! So lets start a SHARE THE LOVE CAMPAIGN! We can start here in Punta Cana!
