Purpose built accommodation for Hedgehog Rescue
Donation protected
Emma’s Hedgehog Hospital is a self-funded , non-profit hedgehog rescue based in Terrington St.Clement, Norfolk. We work towards the goal of removing hedgehogs from the vulnerable to extinction list through Rescue,Rehabilitation and Release.
Emma an RVN provides a rescue service for injured or sick hedgehogs, providing medical treatment with the assistance of a local Veterinary Hospital. Emma also has assistance from a team of trained volunteers within the rescue and indoor and outdoor fosterers.
Once the hedgehog is well and has reached the required minimum weight for the time of year it is then released back into the wild where originally found or a release site is suitably matched to each individual hedgehog.
A fundamental part of Emma’s Hedgehog Hospital is to educate the next generation and adults in how to encourage and provide for hedgehogs in their gardens. Emma and her team are passionate about sharing and instilling knowledge to help the next generation fall in love with Britain’s only prickly mammal, an animal that some may have never seen in person .
Emma has recently funded the build of a purpose built cabin in which the rescue will be moving into shortly. It will allow the rescue to help more sick hedgehogs and grow further as a rescue.
Fundraising is a vital part of allowing us to help feed and pay for veterinary costs for the sick hedgehogs in our care.
Our main aim for 2023is to fundraise for purpose built accommodation to house the hedgehogs within the cabin. The housing is specifically built for small mammals and will cater for their welfare needs whilst in the rescue. It will meet the needs of all stages of hedgehogs as well as nursing mothers. The material used is durable and guaranteed for 30years. It can withstand cleaning materials and steam without becoming brittle unlike traditional plastics. The housing will also be more space saving allowing for more hedgehogs to be rehabilitated and cared for in the rescue.
