Put it Down the Musical

Donation protected
I am writing and creating  a high school musical that allows kids from all social groups to collaborate and showcase their individuality and talents. Students explore finding identity, acceptance, and purpose through rejecting labels and stereotypes. They share a sense of purpose, improve morale, stimulate thinking, identify misunderstandings while creating empathy and inclusion.

The funds will be used to purchase original scores to accompany the musical script, to pay collaborators, acquire studio time and professional video, choreography and directing costs. We are in the process of grant writing in combination with crowd funding. This musical will help to promote awareness about the importance of the arts and arts programs. It is also my intent to use this increased awareness to fund art and music in our schools to keep the Arts alive.

Music can evoke emotional responses and help people heal. In this high school musical students tell their stories through experimentation, self-expression and collaboration. Collaboration gives them an opportunity to take risks, work closely with peers from different backgrounds, and develop empathy through listening with deeper understanding. The students explore on and off stage the challenge of getting good grades, winning an important football season, mending hearts after a break up, and the negative effects of social labeling. They will ask, explore and answer the question of where do I fit in? Students learn that they all share concerns about their futures and the state of the world they are growing up in. Exploring these themes teaches kindness through dialogue and collaboration.

In the words of the main character, Frida, “I can't help but think and believe in magic  and that if we, all of us, truly believe that abundance and good fortune were possible for everyone and deserved by everyone that abundance was actually itself abundant  that we would live in a better world.”

The easiest thing to do is reject what you don’t understand. People that are different make you uncomfortable. Growth is realized by stretching and embracing the unknown through getting uncomfortable. There is something in the process of creating art together some kind of magical community that realizes that it takes everyone working together to pull off a great show.
