Sam's Medical Funds

A little better than a year ago, new to Ochsner and in a new city for work, I met a young woman whom I instantly connected with, laughed with, and felt so comfortable with. Sam has become a work sister to me over this past year and a few months ago, I was shocked to hear the news. I remember Sam telling me how she had not been feeling well and was really hoping to get better before leaving on a trip with her husband. Then, there it was...stage 3 colon cancer. The first word out of my mouth when I found out, you can imagine, was not pretty. It's always the people you least expect. Though I try to tell her all of the time, Sam has meant so much to me as I navigated a new workplace this past year. I was lucky enough to work in two locations with her, getting to see her often. Her smile and demeanor radiates throughout the clinics, even when she might not have been feeling the best.

For those of you who even know the littlest bit about Sam, it's that she's the most selfless person you'll meet. She is the person to give her shirt off her back for you, fight for you, and work hard to show her love for you. She is a woman of God who praises His name in the midst of her biggest storm. It's time for us to give back to her and help her fight the good fight. Sam gave me permission to do this as we all know she would never do this for herself. We are hoping to raise money to offset some of the medical costs that come with her surgery, chemotherapy treatment, doctor's visits, and specialty appointments. I recently told her I can't take your pain or discomfort away, and I can't necessarily wear your shoes, but I can help you as we race til the end of treatment.
